You Only Live Once

Consumption is an old term for wasting away in the body. It is common knowledge that Americans use far more resources than people from other countries. Americans eat tons of food. From ice cream, hot dogs, pizza, and chocolate cake. It is clear that we LOVE it.
Take myself for example, I eat out almost everyday. My mornings consist of going out and purchasing an iced coffee, with caramel drizzle. I also order two slices of french toast with a lot of syrup. I am what you would consider a food junkie. My sister on the other hand, its stingy. She's what you would call a health freak. For breakfast, she drinks a protein shake and eats unseasoned eggs; a gluten free diet. She's frugal, I'm not. Weekly, I probably spend around $15.00 on coffee ALONE. There's no shame in my game.
When it comes to food money is no object. Every other day it seems like we are being told to reduce our consumption. The operative question is, why? If it looks good then eat it! After all, you only live once.

  1. Hi, Jessica! I also feel that if you want something you should get it because we only live once. I can relate to you on spending money on food. When I look at my bank statement it is full of fast food restaurants and well that is where most of my money goes. I started off my first year of college purchasing anything I wanted to eat but then it caught up to me. I now try to watch what I eat because I don’t wan to gain weight but I’ve noticed how much money Ive saved and it doesn’t feel to bad. I like how you embrace either sides of consumption for those who want to buy it all and for those who don’t. I got a really positive tone from your post.

  2. Hi Jessica, I enjoyed your post as well as your YOLO attitude! I like how you pointed out the differences between you and your sister. Many people can be put into a category that is either similar to you, or to your sister. Personally I fall somewhat in between. I think that one of the biggest problems with Americans consuming so much, is that we end up wasting a lot as well. America is country that is always encourage us to "do more." A funny example that comes to mind is the marketing technique of infomercials saying, "but wait...buy now and we'll double your offer!" In most cases, doubling your order is seen as a positive thing for the customer. However, whats the point of having two identical items that serve the same purpose? if it is an item that is commonly owned in multiples, then that's a different story. Anyways, Americas over-consumption can be linked to advertising techniques found in the media.
